With Christmas, Hanukkah, and other winter holidays upon us, many of us are feeling the familiar pull toward generosity and connection. During this season of giving, it’s always inspiring to see communities come together to lift one another up.

And just like every year, our team is leaning fully into that spirit. Among several initiatives at this time of year, one of our favorite traditions is seeing our very own Steve Pokorra fire up his classic ’88 Cadillac and load it with toys for the annual Toys for Tots drive. This year, as always, he’s delivering gifts on behalf of Bulletproof IT, and we’re proud to match his donations to help bring a little extra joy to families who need it most.

Community involvement is woven into the heart of Bulletproof IT and goes beyond the holiday season. Throughout the year, we support a variety of local organizations, many who also receive our customized nonprofit IT support, but also initiatives in sports, business, and vulnerable community groups. Each partnership is a chance to contribute to strengthening our local Alberta communities in Calgary and Red Deer and making life a little brighter for the people who call it home.

And it’s not just about writing a cheque. Volunteer hours, hands-on help, showing up where it matters…these are all part of building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

Curious to know more? Below, you’ll discover more details about what our community impact looks like and initiatives we’ve done lately.

‘Tis The Season for Holiday IT Magic for Nonprofits

Especially during the busiest time of year, nonprofits need their technology running smoothly so they can focus on supporting our community. When their technology stalls, so does their ability to serve the people who depend on them.

Unfortunately, that’s a common experience for many organizations, who rely on older systems, limited resources, and lean staff.

That’s why we focus on giving nonprofits an IT environment they can count on, whether it’s quick help from our service desk, ongoing maintenance to prevent issues, or guidance that keeps their technology secure and up to date. The goal is simple: take the stress off their plate so they can stay focused on their mission.

To bring that to life, we sketched out a fun moment from our day-to-day work. Follow Shane, our Service Desk Lead, as he lends a hand (and a little tech magic) to a local charity getting ready for their holiday drive.

Inside an event space decked out with holiday decorations. Volunteers are surrounded by donation boxes, wrapping gifts, and hanging string lights. A panicked volunteer looks at a computer that shows a flashing “NETWORK DOWN” message.

Volunteer: “Oh no! We can’t process donations, and the holiday drive starts in an hour!”

Panel 2

The next panel bubble shows Shane answering on-screen from his home office, coffee mug in hand, with a small Christmas tree behind him.

Volunteer: Hey Shane, our network decided to take a holiday break. Can you help us bring it back?”

Shane: “You got it! Let’s get everything back up and running before Santa makes his rounds.”

Panel 3

Split view: Shane focused, at his computer, typing calmly, while the nonprofit staff looks at their screen, which now says “Connection Restored!” A volunteer cheers and tosses a bit of tinsel in the air.

Shane (on screen): “Looks like you’re back up and secure!”

Panel 4

The volunteers are smiling and waving at Shane through the screen, a tray of cookies on the table beside them.

Volunteer: “We’ll save you a cookie, Shane. Thanks for saving the day!”

Shane (on screen, smiling): “And thanks for letting me be part of the good you do!”

Shining a Light on Local Organizations Making a Difference

Our community is full of people and organizations doing incredible work in healthcare, sports, animal welfare and beyond. We’re grateful for every chance to support them and help out in ways that really matter locally.

Here are a few of the initiatives that made this year especially meaningful for our Bulletproof IT team:

Red Deer Regional Health Foundation

Healthcare touches every family in our region, and the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation helps make sure local hospitals have the medical equipment and programs they need to support patients. Their annual Festival of Trees pulls the community together to keep that mission moving forward.

For more than 15 years, we’ve been proud to stand behind this event as Platinum Sponsors. Our team also works with the Foundation throughout the year, providing their ongoing IT support so they can stay focused on their mission.

Red Deer Rebels

If there’s one thing that brings people together around here, it’s a Rebels game. Families, fans, and young players all show up for the excitement and hometown pride.

For the past four years, we’ve been an in-ice sponsor and participate in the fun each season through our Bulletproof IT Game Day, where our team volunteers to create and hand out custom hockey cards to fans. Every year during the event, we look forward to the annual Toque & Teddy Bear Toss Night, a cherished Rebels tradition that supports the Red Deer Christmas Bureau and other local charities. Seeing the ice fill with warm items and teddy bears is a reminder of just how generous this community can be.

United Way of Central Alberta

The United Way of Central Alberta does a lot of good in our community, supporting programs that help families with essentials like housing, food, mental health care, and education. Their work touches thousands of people every year and helps meet some of the most important needs for our neighbours.

We partner with their team through ongoing IT services, maintaining and optimizing their technology so they can stay focused on the impact they make. But it’s not just a business relationship. Bulletproof IT regularly sponsors their events, too, and gets actively involved in moving their mission forward. Earlier this fall, we joined their campaign kickoff luncheon as a Silver Sponsor. It was a great event that brought people together to celebrate generosity and community care.

Cochrane and Area Humane Society

The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is all about giving animals a safe place to land and a fresh start. Their team pours their hearts into rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pets in need, and they somehow still find time to spread the word about responsible animal care. It’s hard not to love the work they do.

This fall, we joined in on the fun at their Wags & Whiskers Gala as the Sit and Stay Centerpiece Sponsor. Our VP of Partner Relations, Barb Plicka, and her niece Bryn created 25 vintage-inspired centerpieces that helped set the tone for the night. The event was full of wagging tails, good food, and some serious community spirit, and it all came together to raise over $100,000 for animals who need it most.

Take the Next Step Toward Reliable Nonprofit IT Support

Giving back goes far beyond the holiday season for us. It shows up in the everyday people and organizations that make our community stronger throughout the year. From healthcare and human services to sports, animal welfare, and local charities, we partner with these incredible organizations because we care about their mission and we believe that when our community thrives, we all benefit.

That same spirit is why nonprofit IT matters. Your nonprofit is likely often pulled in a dozen directions at once, trying to do meaningful work with whatever resources you have. But when your technology works well, it frees your staff up to focus on the people and programs that really need them.

A managed IT services provider lets you offload the maintenance to experts. With Bulletproof IT, nonprofits can receive steady, predictable IT support, cybersecurity safeguards, ongoing maintenance, and round-the-clock help from an experienced service desk. You get the tools and confidence you need to keep serving our region without interruption.

If your organization, non-profit or not, could use a more dependable, stress-free IT setup, we’re here to help. Get in touch with us anytime to start the conversation.
